Thankful That Times Have Changed

In Utah, in the 1920’s, any woman wearing a skirt higher than three inches above the ankle could be fined or put in prison.

A book on good behavior published in France in 1749 said that it was a bad idea to wash since this made you more likely to get colds in winter and sunburn in summer.

In France, the church prohibited people from wearing long, pointed shoes since it hindered them from being able to kneel and pray.

The very tall hair-styles worn by women in the 1780’s gave them many problems.  The hair caught fire if women walked too near chandeliers, they had to sleep sitting up so they didn’t disturb their fancy do and doors at the palace of Versailles had to be made taller so the hair would fit through.  The fancy hair arrangements that took entire days of effort to achieve were then kept in for weeks on end, and became a happy  home for lice and fleas.
